Bus shopping service trialled

A new shopping service involving Aberdeenshire Council’s 65 Special dial-a-trip is being trialled in the Deeside area, operating from Tarland to Banchory.

The dial-a-bus will operate via Coull, Aboyne and Kincardine O’Neil and will provide door-to-door transport for people with mobility problems and those who have limited alternative transport services.

The service will operate fortnightly on Tuesdays (starting November 29), collecting passengers from Tarland at approximately 10.30am and returning from Banchory at around 1.30pm.

All trips need to be booked in advance, at which time passengers will be advised of their approximate pick-up times. Residents need to be registered to use 65 Special, which is done by calling (01224) 664747.

Councillor Peter Argyle, chairman of Aberdeenshire Council’s Infrastructure Services Committee, said: “The new service which is being introduced in response to requests aims to complement the Tuesday Village Hopper service operated by the Deeside Community Transport Group which operates between Tarland and Banchory, via the South Deeside Road.”

Councillor Jill Webster, vice-chair of the committee, said: “These dial-a-bus services have proven to be very successful in other locations across Aberdeenshire and I hope that we will see the same result here.”
