Workshop launched by local youth group
The Youth Industries group in Banchory has started a new craft enterprise workshop for young people over the age of fifteen.
The workshop is the idea of art graduate Vhairi Walker who has been a Youth Industry volunteer.
Vhairi, who has an interest in up-cycling clothes and furniture, runs the workshop for three hours after school in the ‘Box’ youth room in Bellfield Car Park.
The group of young people will learn the skills of sewing, decoupage and furniture restoration over the coming months.
Youth Industries founder, Marion Bolland, said: “Vhairi has been a volunteer with our project this year. When funding became available she was the ideal candidate to lead her own group.
“This initiative not only gives Vhairi her first job as a community artist it also gives a group of young people the opportunity to learn new craft skills and business enterprise.
“Eventually their produce will be sold to raise more funds for the group.”
Funding for the project has come from Aberdeenshire Community Planning Partnership and Cashback for Communities.
