SIR

I was appalled at the decision, without further consultation, to remove the Braemar Ambulance Service (Deeside Piper, April 11).
Last year Brian Jaffray, of the Scottish Ambulance Service, gave an undertaking that no changes would be implemented without the final proposals being put in front of the Community Council.

Can we now believe anything people in authority say?

A
n ambulance, on an emergency response, is now required to travel 17 miles to Braemar, 24 miles to Inverey and 26 miles to Glenshee, before being able to stabilise a casualty for transportation, reducing the chances of the best possible outcome for a stroke victim or other life-threatening illness.

The withdrawal of the ambulance is a definite downgrading of the service. Are the lives of the people of Braemar and the surrounding area less important than those in other areas of Aberdeenshire?

Whatever happened to politicians with the strength of character and leadership to stand up for the 'man in the street' and do what's right.

I am glad that Mike Rumbles is "reassured", I personally, am deeply saddened by the arrogance of those people who we have entrusted, by the political process, to look after our interests.

Will we see a reduction in our council tax for this loss of service? I doubt it!

Yours etc.,
Richard Baker,
Dalmore House,
Fife Brae,
Braemar.
