Sir
I would like to make comment regarding the article in the Deeside Piper ( May 22) titled "Footpath leads to £10,000 for Aboyne".
Michael Rasmussen appears to confuse the planning gain monies, (£10,000) which he legally has to pay because of his development adjutant to Bell Wood, with the compensation (£10,000) for diverting the right of way path for his financial gain.
The planning gain is for the amount £10,000 to be paid to Aberdeenshire Council.
The compensation money is for the diversion of the Bellwoods path – and is owed to Mid Deeside Limited who owns the woods on behalf of the community.
Mr Rasmussen appears now to be saying that the "squirrel" money (I believe this is planning gain money £10,000) is the compensation money, which he has now arbitrarily designated as a donation for the purpose of protecting the red squirrels.
It seems to me that he is trying to amalgamate the two quite separate issues of two amounts of £10,000 into just one amount of £10,000 instead of £20,000 that is collectively owed for planning gain and compensation.
Yours etc
David J Porter
