My family, especially the children, thoroughly enjoyed the experience, as did the fellow travellers, our only disappointment being that the line is still too short.
I was, therefore, shocked to discover that the volunteers' biggest problem is no
t the laying of track or the procurement of rolling stock, but their dealings with Aberdeenshire Council.
Far from being supportive, the local council in general, and a local councillor in particular, have been obstructive, intimidating and worst of all, totally unimaginative.
After the Trump debacle, nothing surprises me, but to make life difficult for such a wonderful project simply beggars belief.
There have apparently been council grants to the railway, but to allow a councillor to fail to declare her interest and by nit-picking every detail of the overall plan, those in charge should hang their heads in shame.
Councillors are elected to bring prosperity and attractive investments into their area.
It will take a lot to convince the local populace that this is the case in Aberdeenshire.
Yours etc.,
Mr R Smith,
Hamilton Place,
Aberdeen.
