Sir
I could not agree more with Dr Alexander S Waugh's letter the Piper published last week (September 18).
The poor attempt of some local politicians to score political points at the expense of the Scottish Justice system after the decision by the Scottish Justice Secretary to release a dying man on compassion grounds needed to be exposed.
There was a time when the Liberal Democrat Party in Scotland and its leaders were putting principles before cheap political points scoring.
We all knew then what the Liberal Democrats stood for.
After failing to understand that the decision of Kenny MacAskill was not a party political matter but a question of justice, the leadership of the party should really consider the reaction of their more experienced predecessors and learn the lesson quickly before it becomes irrelevant in Scottish politics.
Yours etc
