Sir

The Cairn 'o Mount flip down sign debacle has been going on for years (Time of the Signs, Piper, January 8).

The sad reality is that neither the police nor the Council really care if the sign is indicating the correct state of the road.

A better solution would be give the key to the sign to a Glen Dye resident who would at least have an idea what the road conditions are actually like.

The current arrangements between the police and the council do not work and are unsatisfactory.

At least no one is suggesting we go to www.trafficscotland.org for information. That site may as well be administered in Delhi for all the use it has been this winter for Aberdeenshire road information.

Yours etc
