Model show for charity
Big-hearted amateur models took to the catwalk recently and raised nearly £900 for third-world children.
The fashion show at the Lord Kinord Hotel in Ballater raised £880 for the Mramba school for deaf children in Tanzania.
Clothes for the models were provided by Aboyne’s Dee-vine and Aberdeen’s Scottesque boutiques.
Pauline Emslie gave the model hairdos to those hitting the catwalk while Helen Feeley provided the make-up and cosmetics.
All the evening’s models arrived to a glass of champagne and had about 40 minutes to mingle before the evening started with a welcome speech from the hotel’s Jenny Cox who told them all about the good cause they were promoting that evening.
A raffle was also held with Rowantree Jewellery in Ballater, Butterworth Gallery, Milionhair, Secret Garden, Banzantium, Joyell were some of the local companies that donated.
Scottesque opened the show with a twist on traditional Scottish outfits of tartan and tweed.
The attire was worn by 10 models showcasing everything from jackets to evening wear.
After a small break it was Dee-vines turn to show off their evening wear and bridal wear, again all the models had at least two changes of outfit.
Jenny Cox of the hotel said it was a “fantastic success”: “It was all a fantastic success, we had 70 ladies here with models who were showing clothes. In total about 45 outfits were shown that all could be bought after the show.”
Jenny had a special motivation for choosing the Tanzanian school having visited the children there after she climbed Mount Killimanjaro earlier this year: “I did Kilimanjaro in February this year and visited the school afterwards. I have already done a fundraiser for them (the school) this year together with my friend Caroline, we raised enough money so all the children could have mosquito nets over their beds at night time.
About 80 to 100 children board at the school and even though the school gets support from the government it’s not a lot and most parents do not want to spend money on their deaf children since it’s a large handicap in Tanzania to be deaf. The Mramba school makes sure they get good enough education to go on to University.”
