A former Banchory Academy pupil is hitting the high notes by reaching the final of a nationwide singing competition.
Natassia Gunn is one of the final four in the UK Retail Voice Competition, a contest that aims to find the best singer in the mobile phone retail industry.
The winner will be awarded a chance to show their talent in a recording studio and be given their very own “secret gig” in London.
Natassia now works at Phones4U in Wakefield, West Yorkshire but spent from age four to eighteen in Kincardine O’ Neil.
The role of little Orphan Annie was what first pushed Natassia onto the stage: “When I was about eight I played Annie at the Aboyne Theatre and that was really the start for me. After that I just fell in love with singing.”
Natassia then joined the Deeside Musical Society in Aboyne where she honed her voice under the supervision of her “amazing” vocal coach Denise Mitchell.
Natassia said: “Denise was a really amazing singing teacher, she taught me how to be more confident in myself and how to project that confidence out through my voice. She taught me loads of vocal techniques that have really improved my range.”
UK Retail Voice was a competition launched to showcase the musical talent of anyone who works in a mobile phone shop.
The judges whittled down hundreds of applications to a final twelve, who then took part in “X-Factor” style sing-offs.
The final vote to determine the winner is on Monday, November 5.
“To win the competition would mean the world to me. To get to use the recording equipment and have my own gig would really let me show what I can do.
It’s a really great opportunity for me.”
