Local residents, groups and businesses have come together to raise an incredible £30,000 for a cancer research charity.

The proceeds from the 2012 Banchory Summer Marquee Ball were handed over to chosen charity, Gastrocan last weekend.

The summer ball, held at Raemoir House Hotel, has raised over £288,000 for local charities since it began back in 1998. Organisers Logan Sangster and Dawn Law were thrilled as this is the largest amount raised at a single summer ball to date.

Dr Russell Petty, who accepted the cheque on behalf of Gastrocan, was full of praise for the event.

He said: “A donation like this will really make a difference to our clinical research programme and in turn, help us to develop more effective treatments so that we are able to offer all patients in the Grampian area, with these devastating forms of cancer, the very best treatments available, and in doing so, improve the cure rates for oesophageal and gastric cancers.

“In addition to this, the organisors of the ball have been very active in promoting awareness of Gastrocan, and the work it does in supporting research - which has been extremely helpful and encouraging to others to fund raise for us’

“The phenomenal sum raised is a testament to the hard work of Dawn and Logan, organising this event, and I am also very grateful to Laura Tulloch for her assistance with Gastrocan, Julie Sangster of Riah Body and Soul, for organising various events through her business, and to Mr and Mrs Neil Rae of Raemoir Houser Hotel, for providing a truly sumptuous venue, and outstanding service for the occasion.”

The 2013 Summer Marquee Ball date has been set for August 17 and both Logan and Dawn would like to thank all the supporting team for their hard work and efforts behind the scenes and all the local businesses and individuals who have donated.
