Banchory 'Bond' night helps young sufferers
A 'James Bond Casino Night' at the Banchory Lodge Hotel, has raised over £4,000 for two cancer charities.
Nick Sangster, 20, of Banchory, who is a trainee surveyor with Banchory Contractors in Crathes, chose CLIC Sargent as family friends lost their 11-year-old daughter to leukemia in 2003.
Sargent Cancer Care was founded in 1968 as the Sir Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children and CLIC - Cancer and Leukemia in Childhood - was founded in 1976 with both charities providing individual support to children and young people up to the age of 21 with cancer and leukemia in their families.
The two charities merged in 2005 and became CLIC Sargent.
Mr and Mrs John and Karen Thow, who lost daughter Stacey back in 2003 have been friends of the Sangster family for some time and both were delighted that CLIC Sargent was chosen as the beneficery of the 'Bond Casino Night'.
The 100 guests were greeted for a photo shoot with Mr John Garland, a professional Bond look-a-like, along with a gleaming Aston Martin , followed by Martini cocktails on the lawn.
After dinner, the guests enjoyed a casino session, the Bond raffle and auction, with helicopter flights, signed photos from Halle Berry, and lots of Bond signed memorabilia. Golf at Gleneagles topped the lots taking in £800 from a local businessman.
The 'Tops and Tails' winner was Mrs Anita Anderson from Westhill and the 'Best Bond Girl' went to Shirley Petrie of Banchory.
Local fiddler and composer, Judi Nicolson , formerly of Banchory, had met Karen and John at a previous CLIC Charirty Event and said she would one day, compose a Scottish tune in memory of their daughter Stacey. The tune was played for the first time by Judi to an overjoyed Karen, John and Emma Thow - their oldest daughter.
A waltz - aptly named' Memorys of Stacey' - got a standing ovation by the delighted crowd.
The evening ended with the guests taking to floor to the sound of ' Memory's of Stacey' which was recorded on a special CD and presented to John, Karen and Emma.
