PLANS to establish a town forum were met with a positive response at Banchory Community Council's monthly meeting on this week.
The purpose of the town forum would be to discuss issues relating exclusively to Banchory.

The forum would include a wide range of groups from within the community from local business associations to youth groups with the meetings being chaired b
y members of Banchory Community Council.

Tony Brown of Banchory and District Initiative, who presented the proposal at Monday's meeting, said: "I believe that there is not an existing forum to represent Banchory's view.

"The aim of this proposal is to get the different groups of organisations in Banchory to meet two or three times a year. It is proposed that Banchory Community Council would chair these meetings and then take any matters raised to the relevant area group."

Banchory Community Council chairman Keith White said: "I agree that there is value in having a town forum. It is how you structure it that is important. There is an increasing requirement for local people to voice their opinions and a town forum could be a good way to get as many people as possible involved."

Banchory and Mid-Deeside councillor Jill Webster said: "I welcome the proposal to form a community forum under the auspices of the Community Council.

"It is an opportunity to get more organisations and local people involved in what is important to the community. We have a wealth of talent and skills in our community and I would encourage people to get involved with this initiative."

Fellow councillor Linda Clark added: "It could be a different way for the people of Banchory to voice their opinion. It is a vocal community and I would always want to encourage anything that gives people the chance to have their say."
