ABOYNE Twinning Association has been praised by the mayor of the French town they are hoping to formerly link with.

Michel Vernejoul, mayor of Martignas sur Jalle, said: " The delegation from Martignas-sur-Jalle would like to thank most sincerely the committee of the Aboyne Twinning Association, as well as the councillors, for the welcome which was accorded to them.

Our thanks also to Lord Aboyne for his kind invitation to his castle and to his tent in the enclosure of the Aboyne Games."

"Our visit allowed us to discover a magnificent country with its castles, beautiful scenery, whisky, wildlife, traditions and above all its famous rain!"

"We will share these qualities which were expressed so well in the unfolding of the Highland Games where courage, effort, contest, beauty, strength, grace and fellowship create the tradition of Scotland."

"Thank you also to all the men and women of the Twinning committee who made our hearts beat in the rhythm of the Scots. Their delight and joy in entertaining us bodes well for a profitable and valuable exchange between our two towns."
