MINISTER for Schools and Skills, North East Scotland MSP Maureen Watt, and West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine MSP Mike Rumbles joined fellow politicians Annabel Goldie and Iain Gray in wearing a piece of tartan to encourage everyone in Scotland to get involved in 'Kilts for Kids Day'.
The MSPs posed with members of wild Scottish drumming group Clannan An Drumma in front of the Scottish Parliament.

Best known for drawing a crowd in the streets of Edinburgh during the Fringe, members of the group - who have often been described as looking like they have stepped straight off the set of the film Braveheart - were drumming up support for the new national fundraising event.

Organised by CHILDREN 1ST (the Royal Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children), Kilts for Kids Day takes place on Friday (November 28), and the charity is encouraging everyone to organise Scottish themed events in the run-up to St Andrews Day.

CHILDREN 1ST chief executive Anne Houston, said: "In the run-up to St Andrews Day, Kilts for Kids Day offers a day of Scottish-themed fun, from hosting a Scottish tea party to a Kilt-aoke with Scottish songs and musicians to a quiz night featuring Scottish questions – the only limit is your imagination!"

"Kilts for Kids Day is a great opportunity for everyone, young and old, to embrace all things tartan and have a great time raising money that will make a real difference for some of Scotland's most vulnerable children and families."

Celebrity supporter Kaye Adams: said: "Many children in Scotland endure traumas most of us couldn't imagine. The charity's work covers many different areas – from helping children using therapeutic play and art therapy, to providing essential support to families under stress. They also promote the rights and interests of Scotland's young people."

"Kilts for Kids Day is an easy and fun way for everyone in Scotland to join CHILDREN 1ST in working to improve the lives of Scotland's future –and have a great time!"

More information on Kilts for Kids Day, including a downloadable fundraising pack, is available at www.kiltsforkids.org.
