TOURISM retailing and selling Deeside is the subject of a business to business meeting in Ballater next week.

Royal Deeside and the Cairngorms Destination Management Organisation (DMO) are organising the event on Thursday (July 9) at the Hilton Craigendarroch, when directors and members of the DMO hope to network with other businesses in the area.

Two
speakers, Janet Hartree, owner of Ewe & Me shops in Grantown on Spey and Aberlour and Tom Moore, Aberdeen City Centre Manager, who will give short presentations.

Janet Hartree has been involved in retail for 30 years and is passionate about the links between tourism and retailing excellence.

The Grantown shop lies within the heart of the National Park area and she will talk about retail image, customer care, differentiation, and how tourism marketing can affect the bottom line. Janet is also an experienced retail consultant.

Tom Moore has been Aberdeen City Centre Manager for the past 10 years.

He has a long background in retail and also with tourism initiatives in other areas. He has been involved in initiating over 300 projects in Aberdeen from the Continental Markets to pedestrianisation projects and the Winter Festivals to joint national tourism promotional campaigns.

All the projects have close links with retail tourism and he is in constant contact with the 600 retailers in the city centre.

Chair of Royal Deeside and the Cairngorms DMO, Claire Bruce, says: "This event is embracing the fact that tourism is everyone's business, whether you are a small retailer, craft gallery or a large hotel. This is an informal evening with plenty of opportunities to meet, chat with and build up partnerships with other local businesses.

It will also give key members of the organisation and other related businesses a greater understanding of the methods and activities used to attract and retain tourism to the area.

"This meeting will also give an update on the DMO activities and plans for the promotion and development of Royal Deeside and the Cairngorms."

The meeting takes place at 7pm in the Glentanar Suite at the Hilton Craigendarroch, Ballater. A finger buffet will be provided from 6:30pm. Local businesspeople wishing to attend the meeting should reserve a free place in advance by contacting info@discoverroyaldeeside.com with details of how many places are required. Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.
