A BALLATER football fan is donning his kilt to take part in an event called the Tartan Army Children's Charity Kilt Walk, to raise money for disadvanted children in Scotland and Africa.

Terry Gauld, of Swann Place, will join with other kilted walkers on Sunday, April 18, to walk the 26 miles from Hampden Park in Glasgow to Loch Lomond. Starting at the side of the pitch, they will be piped out of the stadium, accompanied by Scotland players past and present as well as Scottish celebrities.

The route will follow Aitkenhead Road to the River Clyde, before joining Sustrans Route 7 to Balloch, keeping the walkers off road for most of the journey.

More than 200 people have already registered to take part.

Terry said: "I became involved with this as I am a member of the Scotland Football Supporters Club. I already have several sponsors but am looking for more."

Donations can be made by signing the sponsorship form in the Newsagents on Bridge Street in Ballater, or by calling Terry on 013397 53797, or by email to tpgauld@googlemail.com.
