  • Map for local residents and tourists alike
  • Initiated between Ballater (Royal Deeside) and the Ballater Business Association
  • Print run doubling to 10,000

Ballater Royal Deeside, Ballater (RD) Ltd (or simply BRD) have just put the final design together for the 2015 Ballater Fun map.

The Map, created by Myriad pro in Ballater, is a reference point for tourists and locals alike, highlighting businesses and events in the area.

The Ballater Fun Map has been around for some time and used to be reprinted every two or three years but I was asked to take it on in 2013 and since then we’ve printed it every year.

Aboyne, Upper deeside and Donside councillor Geva Blackett described the value such a resource has in the community.

She said: “These maps are a fabulous example of local businesses collectively supporting a project to help promote their ventures, the village and the area as a whole and at the same time providing visitors with a fun way to find their way round - I love them!”

Over 5,000 of the maps made there way into the hands of the public last year and Myriad Pro anticipate a need to potentially double this number given pre print interest.

Catriona Houston said: “The Ballater Fun Map has been around for some time and used to be reprinted every two or three years but I was asked to take it on in 2013 and since then we’ve printed it every year, to make sure it’s as useful and up to date as it can be.

“It was initiated between Ballater (Royal Deeside) and the Ballater Business Association. Local businesses pay £30 for a single square or £60 for a double one. This pays for printing and design/layout costs. One side features a map of the village centre and its immediate attractions, while the other side details the wider area and more of the outdoorsy things to do around Deeside.”

The A3 maps are free to pick up and are distributed around many of the shops and cafes in Ballater.

“This year the print run is doubling to 10,000 so even more people will be able to take advantage of them.

“If you would like your business to feature on the Ballater Fun Map next year, would like a stock of them for your shop or B&B, or if you’d like to start one for your own town or village, contact Myriad Pro on 013397 55243 or myriadpro@yahoo.co.uk or the B(RD) on 013397 55467.

The Funmap is set to feature directions (obviously) for use in and around the town as well as a number of interesting facts.

Many prominent local businesses have advertised on the map including, India on The Green, The Deeside Inn, Amy Muir Phortography, Ballater Golf Club, Cycle Highlands ltd, Countrywear and even Balmoral castle.
