Jim Savage has been named as the new chief executive of Aberdeenshire Council following a national recruitment process.

The decision was confirmed last Wednesday, November 19, by the authority’s councillor-led Appointments Committee.

Jim is currently corporate director for environment and community services at Cumbria County Council.

He is responsible for all front-line services, working with staff and politicians to support communities and businesses across one of the largest and most sparsely-populated counties in England.

His career in local government spans more than a decade and his previous roles include deputy corporate director for human resources at Staffordshire County Council, before moving to Cumbria to take up the role of corporate director of human resources, and later the role of corporate director for environment.

Jim also has significant private sector experience.

Committee chair and Council Leade, Cllr Jim Gifford, said: “I am delighted to be able to confirm that Jim will be joining us as the new chief executive.

“I would like to be the first to offer my congratulations to Jim and look forward to welcoming him to this forward-thinking and ambitious authority.”

Cllr Geva Blackett said: “I very much look forward to meeting our new chief executive and to hearing how he will lead the council forward to meet the challenges we face, with issues such as teacher recruitment and affordable housing.”
