A classical singer from Deeside is set for her biggest role yet, to star alongside West End and Broadway stars in a nationally-acclaimed show.

Aboyne’s Fiona Kelly will perform at the legendary Usher Hall in Edinburgh next month, as part of An Evening Of Movies and Musicals at Christmas.

The show, which features a 65-piece orchestra performing theme music and signature tunes from famous movies and musicals, has won national acclaim and sold out venues around the UK.

Fiona, who trained as a soprano in Aberdeen, will take her place among a string of stars, famed for their appearances in the West End and on Broadway.

The stellar cast includes Ruthie Henshall, whose extensive career has seen her performing lead roles in Cats, Miss Saigon, Les Miserables, Oliver! and Chicago, among others, not to mention a TV career which included a stint as a judge on Dancing On Ice.

Also performing is the talented John Owen Jones, who is perhaps best known for his starring roles as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables and the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera.

And Scotland’s own Keith Jack will also make an appearance – a national star who shot to fame as runner-up on the BBC1 show Any Dream Will Do.

Since then, he has enjoyed a rich theatrical career which has included several reprisals of the lead role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

Fiona said: “I am delighted at this opportunity to perform in such fabulous company as Ruthie Henshall and John Owen Jones.

“To be able to sing the songs I love with a full symphony orchestra in one of the world’s most prestigious venues is absolutely thrilling. I am so excited.”

Fiona started singing as a child, before going on to train at the North East Scotland Music School and The Northern College, Aberdeen.

Since launching her career 12 years ago, she has had many highlights including singing for the Royal Family at Balmoral with Katherine Jenkins.

A percentage of the tickets sales from the show will be donated to Scotland’s leading children’s charity, Aberlour which runs a string of services for disadvantaged young people in Aberdeen.

An Evening of Movies and Musicals at Christmas will take place on November 24. For more information about the event, visit www.usherhall.com.
