A senior care assistant in the North-east has won an award.

Kasia Domanska was joint winner of the Care Newcomer Award in Caring Homes’ Scottish Recognition Awards.

She was nominated by relatives of a resident at Hawkhill House in Milltimber who described her as ‘a joy to watch’, and was selected for the accolade because of her positive impact on care at the home.

The awards recognised excellence among the care group’s seven Scottish homes.

Hawkhill provides nursing and dementia care for up to 43 elderly people.

Home manager Mel Shearer said: “Kasia quickly showed her capability and was soon promoted to her present position. “She is always thinking of the wellbeing of the residents and we are fortunate to have her as a member of our team.”

Four of the care team at Hawkhill were presented with long-service certificates and vouchers - nurse Eileen Dunn and domestic assistant Frances Charles, both 26 years; cook Yvonne Fraser, 21 years; and kitchen assistant Margaret Rae, 16 years’ service.
