Accordion group donate thousands to local charities

A local Celtic music group has announced they donated thousands of pounds last year to various charities throughout Aberdeenshire.

The Scottish Accordion Music Group donated £5000 in 2015.

The group plays all over the north-east at various old folks homes and clubs from as far away as Fraserburgh to Montrose.

Keith Duncan took over from Bill Cooper as the group leader in 2006, and since then they have raised over £63,000 for various charities.

The band meet every second Sunday of the month at Durris Kirkton Hall. The doors open at 6.45pm when over 100 people take their seats to the music of about 40 musicians.

The band have cut their second CD and the proceeds from it go into the pot with the rest of the donations from the concerts, which will be divided amongst the charities.

Among the recipients of donations last year was: Bonnyton House, Ellon; Alford District Arthiritis Club; Hanover Social Club, Montrose; Aberchirder Old Folks Club; Inverbervie Day Centre; Banchory Shed Club, and Forget Me Not Club.
