Mike, who has been at the helm of the award-winning newspaper since January 2013, is relocating to Angus South in his new role as head of that division, which is part of Johnston Press Scotland.
Based in Arbroath and Forfar, he will be in charge of a stable of titles serving those towns as well as Montrose, Brechin, Kirriemuir and Carnoustie.

Mike spent 10 years in charge of the St Andrews Citizen newspaper based in the Home of Golf.
He was then, briefly, head of news for North East Fife within the Fife Free Press group of titles prior to being appointed editor of the Deeside and Donside Pipers and their sister titles, the Mearns Leader and Kincardineshire Observer, based in Stonehaven.
A family man, when time allows he also enjoys an eclectic range of interests which include motor cycles, canoeing, cycling and fishing.
He said this week: ‘’I have enjoyed my time with the Piper, and would like to thank all of the people I have come to know and who have contributed to the success of the paper, not least of whom the hard-working editorial team, and wish them well for the future.’’
He will be succeeeded to the editorship of those titles by Morag Kuc, currently editor of the Peterhead-based Buchan Advertiser, Fraserburgh Herald and Ellon Times newspapers.
Her responsibilities have been extended as part of her new role as editor of the Angus North division.
