Alexander (Sandy) and Elizabeth (Betty) Milne celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary on July 21.

The couple, who live in Highfield Avenue, Banchory, were presented with a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of ten year old malt whisky from Banchory and Mid-Deeside councillor Linda Clark on behalf of Aberdeenshire council.

Sandy, a former bee keeper and talented footballer, married Betty at the Burnett Arms Hotel on July 21, 1951 and have lived in Banchory all their lives.

Sandy and Betty have two sons, one daughter, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

When asked about what the secret is to a long and successful marriage, Betty, a former waitress, replied: “I think the key is to always be there for each other and to just help each other through the good and the bad.”
