Banchory is looking even bonnier than usual now that the town’s hanging baskets are in place.

A spokesman for Bonnie Banchory said: “Logistics meant that we couldn’t get the flower baskets up in time for the St Ternan and Jubilee weekend but we were determined to get them in place for the Olympic flame relay through the town on Monday.”

She added that ‘a plethora of thanks’ are due to builders Bruce McCombie and Jim Thomson who transported the baskets from Crathes Castle and put them in place; head gardener Chris Wardle at the castle for the use of the facilities; Raemoir Garden Centre for their donation of compost; Aberdeenshire Council for all the plants, and, the bevy of volunteers who endured a plague of midges throughout the morning planting session.
