Alford’s Emeli Sandé was hailed as the Best Breakthrough Artist at the prestigious Nordoff Robbins ‘Tartan Clef’ Awards in Glasgow on Saturday night, following the success of her debut single ‘Heaven’, which reached number 2 in the charts, and her featured guest vocal on Professor Green’s recent number 1 song ‘Read All About It’.

The music therapy charity honours the best in Scottish music each year with a spectacular ceremony at the city’s Old Fruit Market venue.

Emeli opened the show with a stunning performance including new single ‘Daddy’ and ‘Heaven’.

The former Alford Academy pupil will support Coldplay at some of their UK gigs next month, as well as appearing at various regional radio events.

Emeli’s debut album, Our Version of Events, is set to be released in February.
