Edinburgh-based singer-songwriter Jake Cogan will perform Burns songs with a transatlantic twist at Woodend Barn on Saturday (June 2) at 8pm.
Hailed as one of the most exciting vocal talents to emerge in Scotland in recent years, Jake and her band will perform songs from their newly-released second album Parcel of Rogues, alongside other folk-based material.
The band suggests that the transatlantic sound of their arrangements reflects the journey which the folk melodies made through Scottish immigration to the US, becoming incorporated into the American “mountain music” tradition, and returning here to their Scottish roots with new American interpretations.
With both of her albums being selected by BBC Radio Scotland’s Iain Anderson as his Albums of the Week, Jake has also attracted praise from distinguished musicians including veteran singer-songwriter Dick Gaughan, who described her as “what a real singer should be, someone with a direct connection between soul and voice.”
