Liberal Democrat MSP for the North East Region Mike Rumbles has added his voice to the campaign to protect the countryside of the North East from planned “super pylons” which would pass through an unspoiled area of West Aberdeenshire.

In the light of SSE’s decision to delay the publication of its public consultation report on the project, Mr Rumbles urged SSE to be as open as possible with those who have concerns regarding the route that would pass from Blackhillock to Kintore.

Mr Rumbles said: “It is entirely wrong if SSE choose a route for these pylons that would ruin an unspoiled and unique part of the North-east countryside. The people here are right to be concerned by the proposed route.

“I am convinced that the proper route for this project must be along the A96 corridor.

“As such, I have written to the CEO of SSE and requested that they publish their report as soon as possible to facilitate a proper dialogue with campaigners and community councils who have raised a number of concerns. I have also asked that a more appropriate route along the A96 corridor be considered.”

The MSP is currently awaiting a response from SSE.
