Four young apprentices from Deeside and Donside are celebrating being top of the class.

Torphins trio Taylor Christie, Kyle Edgar, Bruce McCombie, and Struan Miller, from Glenkindie, collected awards at the recent North East Scotland College Construction Crafts and Plumbing ceremony.

They were presented by Colin McKinnon, operations director for Robertson Construction Northern, in front of family, friends, employers and lecturers.

Second year carpentry and joinery apprentice Taylor, 21, who works for Gordon Mitchell Contractors, received two separate awards at the event.

He was named the top carpentry and joinery trainee in his year for the second year running, and also received the Grampian Building Employers Association Trophy.

Kyle, 17, was named best stage one carpentry and joinery trainee.

He is employed by Nicholas Edgar Property Maintenance and Development.

Second year plumbing apprentice Bruce, 18, made an impressive start to his training last year when he was named the best first year plumbing trainee.

Bruce, who works for Sugplumb, continued his success in 2016, once again being named the best in his year group, receiving the PTS Trophy.

Following in Bruce’s footsteps is his colleague at Sugplumb, stage one plumbing apprentice Struan, 19, who was awarded the City Plumbing Supplies Trophy for being top student in his year group.

The young apprentices’ achievements were praised by Pat Cromar, faculty manager at North East Scotland College, who gave a progress report on each of the award winners.

Prizes were also presented at the event to those studying bricklaying and painting and decorating.

The annual Construction Crafts and Plumbing Awards Ceremony is a formal event held at the college’s Altens campus.

It provides an opportunity to offer formal recognition of the hard work and achievements of students.
