A meeting is being held in Aboyne next week to discuss setting up a local hillwalking group

All walkers and climbers based in Mid Deeside are invited to a gathering next Thursday (March 22) in the Boat Inn, Aboyne to discuss setting up a locally based mountaineering club.

Duncan Tunstall and Eilidh Scobbie both share a passion for the hills. For the last five years, they have lived five houses apart, but only met by chance recently. They now hope to revive a mountaineering club in the village, so that people with similar interests can enjoy outings to the hills together.

Duncan said: “We would like a local club which has a wide appeal – to novices, experts, and enthusiasts of all ages. We hope that lots of people living within 15 miles of Aboyne, who are interested in climbing or walking in the mountains, will come to the meeting.

We have a number of ideas of what could be organised, and hope that other people will bring their own ideas along.”

He added:”If you can’t manage on the 22nd, but might be interested in joining the club, you can contact me on 013398-86711 or email aboyne.mountains@btinternet.com.”

The meeting in the Boat Inn next week is at at 8.00pm
