FOUR Thursdays in July and August have been set aside for the popular free children’s events at Spittal of Muick which have become part of the joy of summer on Upper Deeside for local children and visitors alike.
The Balmoral Estate Rangers Service organise the events which – this year – will include close-up looks at birds of prey, minibeasts, pond creatures and forest dwellers. The two-hour sessions are aimed at children over five, and all under-16s must be accompanied.
Head Ranger Glyn Jones said: “In the past, we’ve found that the adults enjoy the children’s events too, so there’s a mix for everyone. Suitable clothing is a must and we’d like people to book in advance because numbers are limited. Phone the Spittal of Muick Visitor Centre on 013397 55059 to let us know you are coming.
“This is a chance to get to know a bit more about the wildlife we are lucky to have all around us, and to have lots of fun too.
“There’ll be stories and games as well as the completely unknown…previous events have starred unexpected creatures who have unsuspectingly presented themselves for examination right beneath our noses…that helps teach youngsters to keep an eye open for – and be respectful of -- everything that shares the wilderness, but doesn’t necessarily want to be disturbed!”
The Children’s Events are on Thursdays, July 26, August 2, 9 and 16. They start at the Visitor Centre and last until roughly 4pm.
