Concert to raise funds for village hall

Logie Coldstone Trust will be hosting a traditional concert this Friday night (August 17), in the Victory Hall in Aboyne, to raise funds for improvements to the village hall in Logie Coldstone.

The hall, set in beautiful countryside, was built to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee 150 years ago and now in the year of Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee, it is in need of major improvement.

Despite the best efforts of volunteers and local fundraising over recent years, high running costs have meant that the hall is still not meeting the needs of the community while the fabric of the building is deteriorating faster than we can afford to maintain it.

The broad aims of Logie Coldstone Trust are to create a financially and environmentally sustainable central focus for the village, in particular by both reducing energy costs and also by making the hall more comfortable and fit for purpose for as wide variety of uses as possible.

This hub will play a major part in supporting social inclusion and cohesion, the promotion of knowledge, skills and appreciation of our heritage and improved health and well being for the whole community and visitors to the area.

Logie Coldstone Trust are working closely with the Energy Saving Trust to find the most efficient ways, including innovative ideas, of achieving our aims.

Since this spring, well over £3,000 has been raised for funds and they are continuing the fundraising this weekend with a traditional Scottish concert with the very kind support of the Scottish Accordion Music Group who meet regularly in Durris.

This group do many fundraising concerts for groups throughout the North-east with the donation they ask for their services also going to various good causes. The concert promises to be a very entertaining evening with a variety of accordion and fiddle tunes along with some songs and poems.

Tickets are available from Aboyne Paper Shop (or call Anne on 013398 81539) and are cheaper bought in advance: £7.50 adult/ £3.50 school age child. They will cost £9 /£4.50 bought at the door on the night.
