An Aberdeenshire council boss has sadly died following a road traffic collision on the A944 Dunecht to Alfrod road on Saturday 5 December.

58-year-old Douglas Edwardson, head of housing at Aberdeenshire Council, was left in a critical condition when his Seat Leon collided with a tractor at around 2:30pm.

As a result, he and his wife were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries - he was later put into an induced coma.

It is understood his wife was discharged shortly after.

His family have released a brief statement through Police Scotland: “Douglas’ family are devastated to confirm that Douglas has died.

“They are very grateful for all the support they have received, in particular from all the staff at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.”

Police are continuing to appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.

Road Policing Sergeant Steve Milne said: “”It is understood a small 4x4 may have stopped directly after the accident in the Eastbound carriageway and the sole occupant may have seen the collision.

“We would appeal for that driver or anyone else with information to call 101.”
