An Aberdeenshire Council boss has been left in a coma after his car collided with a tractor near Dunecht at the weekend.
Douglas Edwardson, head of housing at Aberdeenshire Council, was left in a critical condition on Saturday when his Seat Leon collided with a tractor at around 2:30pm.
As a result, he and his wife were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries - he was later put into an induced coma though it is believed that she has been discharged.
Geva Blackett, councillor for Upper Deeside and Donside, said: “Douglas is one of life’s ‘can do’ people - he has helped so many people with housing issues.
“I was deeply shocked to hear about his accident and send him and his family my warmest thoughts at this difficult time.”
Police inquiries are still ongoing at this time.
Roads Policing Sgt Steve Milne said: “We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or either vehicles prior to the collision to contact us on 101.
“It is understood a small 4x4 may have stopped directly after the accident in the Eastbound carriageway and the sole occupant may have seen the collision. We would appeal for the driver to contact us.”
