Alford Day Nursery and After School Club have acheived bronze and silver eco-schools awards and certificates.
Amongst the events undertaken for the awards, children, staff and parents picked up litter and raised £457 for the Archie Foundation. They held a ‘One Planet’ nursery lunch and a snack at the After School Club, using local homegrown produce the children took in and enjoyed Fairtrade foods during the ‘Sustaining the World’ topic.
Nursery owner Tanya Tough thanked parents, children, staff and early years co-ordinator, Helen Farquhar, for all their help, support and hard work.
“We are really pleased and proud of all the hard work that has been undertaken so far,” said Tanya.
“A compost bin and green cone has been bought to be used to cover our ‘waste’ topic. “Parents and staff have met as a committee every six to eight weeks to discuss progress and the way forward. We will be working towards our green flag award next.”
