Members of the Aboyne Twinning Association have learned of the death from cancer, of Caroline Vernejoul, wife of the Mayor of Martignas-sur-Jalle, Michel Vernejoul.
Aboyne and Martignas were twinned in August 2010, following a series of exchange visits during which lasting friendships were formed and a strong bond created between the two communities.
Chairman of the Aboyne Twinning Association Sheena Cooper said: “ Caroline was a great enthusiast and supporter of the Twinning link between our two communities as well as being tremendously kind and generous to everyone who visited Martignas. Her illness was diagnosed shortly before the visit from Martignas in the summer of 2010 which meant that both she and Michel missed the signing ceremony towards which they had worked tirelessly.
“All those who met Caroline on her visits to Aboyne or who knew her in Martignas, will remember her with great affection.”
The latest exchange will see a group travel from Aboyne to Martignas this summer.
