The Royal Deeside Railway, at Milton of Crathes, will be starting its summer season passenger operations this coming weekend (Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1).

As the resident “Bon Accord” steam locomotive is undergoing maintenance at present, members have chartered another steam locomotive to allow them to operate a more extensive steam service this year and this weekend will see the first steam services with the new locomotive.

Since last year they have extended the line further west, although passenger services aren’t as yet running past the level crossing.

They have a full programme this year including an Easter Egg Special on 7, 8 and 9th April; Brake Van rides on 5 and 6th May; Wickham Weekends in May and June; Steam & Vintage Rally in August; Diesel Gala in September; Haloween Specials in October, and then the annual Santa Specials in December.

They are also continuing their popular “Driver for a Fiver” days in April, June and August.

To make way on the platform for the Victorian Oldmeldrum Station, which will be shortly arriving in various bits and pieces, both the shop and bothy have been moved to their new locations.

A First service on both days is at 11.00am with last service at 4.15pm. Full details at www.deeside-railway.co.uk
