Training for a trip of a lifetime

Pupils and staff from Alford Academy’s Expedition Team took part in an adventure packed training weekend at Comrie in Perthshire last week.

They practiced a variety of expedition skills including team-building, risk assessment, first aid and cooking on a camp stove in preparation for their three week adventure in Zambia and Botswana this summer.

The expedition will include a trek through the Batoka Gorge where the might Zambezi River carves its way through the African countryside, a community project in the village of Mwandi to build a traditional dwelling for elderly residents and orphans, a safari and a trip to Victoria Falls.

The skills learnt at Comrie will prepare the pupils well for the expedition, although they will be coping with very different weather conditions!
