During Banchory District Guides’ recent camp at Haddo Country Park a well known Banchory Guider got the surprise of her life when all the campers were invited up to Haddo House, supposedly as a special treat as the first day of the camp had been torrential rain all day.
The campers were welcomed by County Commissioner, Mrs Hazel McCartney, Mrs Anne McNair, County President, Dinah Faulds the Scottish Chief Commissioner and numerous Guiders from all over the County. Enid Blaikie was invited to the front of the meeting along with Dinah Faulds who made a short speech listing Enid’s contribution to Girlguiding from when she became an Assistant Leader in the 3rd Banchory Guides in 1992 through becoming a Leader then County International Advisor and County Commissioner for Kincardine & Deeside.
Enid is still Guiding in Banchory as well as being Scottish Lone Guiding Commissioner and serving on numerous committees within Girlguiding Scotland.
Dinah Faulds then presented Enid with the Laurel Award which is given to members of Girlguiding UK in recognition of outstanding service.
Almost speechless, Enid managed to say that she may have given to Guiding but in return it had given her opportunities and rewards which she would otherwise not have enjoyed.
Following the reception in the House the assembled company visited the campsite where Dinah Faulds, a Guide Guider herself, inspected the tents.
