A new event has been launched on Deeside which will attract mountain enthusiasts.

The inaugural Braemar Mountain Festival takes place on the first weekend in March, 2017.

Showcasing the local mountain environment, there will be something for everyone in a varied programme which includes winter sports and skills sessions, photography, mountain art, speakers and film.

The festival will be centred at Braemar, a short drive from Glenshee Ski Centre, where many of the activity-based sessions will be held.

Sue Harper, one of the organisers, said: "We want to stage a festival which gives people the chance to try out some of the activities that they might see in our films or hear about from our line-up of speakers, as well as offering some legendary Scottish hospitality including ceilidh and live music.

"Braemar is one of the snowiest and coldest places in the UK and is set in an amazing mountainscape, so it’s an ideal location for a winter-based mountain festival.

Tickets are on sale for the event, which runs from March 3-5.
