A local husband and wife team have pledged to keep their village clean by signing up to a new Aberdeenshire Council green initiative.

Peter and Gracie Adams, who run the Village Store in Kirkton of Skene, have signed up to the Green Dog Walkers Scheme, which was launched recently by the Council.

The Village Store is the perfect focal point for residents to go to sign their pledge.

The aim is to encourage walkers to be more responsible about clearing up after their dogs.

Dogs belonging to “Green Walkers” can wear a green collar to show that they have signed up to the pledge.

The pledge states that the walker will always clean up after their own dog and that they are happy to be approached to give a spare dog waste bag to those without. It also acts as a friendly reminder for other dog walkers to clean up after their pets.

Councillor for Westhill and District, Iris Walker said: “I am delighted that Mr & Mrs Adams have agreed to be green advocates for their village. The Village Store is the perfect focal point for residents to go to sign their pledge and help keep Kirkton of Skene tidy as I know dog fouling is a particular problem in some areas of the village.”
