Members of Torphins Community Council joined with representatives from Scotmid for a special ‘big clean’ recently.

Scotmid’s theme for the year is ‘Big Co-op Clean’ which ran from June 18 to July 2.

The campaign bid to get communities involved in cleaning up their area and the local clean-up was held on June 25 and was organised by Yvonne Goodfellow of Scotmid and members of the community council.

Scotmid staff and community councillors and volunteers - both young and not so young, got involved in what turned out to be a most enjoyable social event.

In addition, the team managed to pick up a few bags of litter along the way.

Community council chair, John Lucas, said: “The exercise illustrated just how little litter there actually is in Torphins - and there’s even less now!

“Scotmid kindly provided all the volunteers with bottled water and a healthy snack along the way.

“The community council works closely with our local Scotmid and besides providing us with an excellent store they are very supportive to our local community,” added Mr Lucas.
