Local businesses, organisations and community groups in Aberdeenshire are invited to take part in an event in Crathes later this month as part of a project to shape the way day services for adults are carried out in future.
A successful event was held in Inverurie in June and now a further event will be held at Crathes Public Hall on Wednesday, October 10 from 9.30am to 3.00pm.
The IDEA project (Inclusive Day Services Enabling Aberdeenshire) is an extensive consultation and involvement programme that is taking place to find out what adults who use services and their family carers think services should be like. Community partners will get the opportunity to develop the kind of day services people who use services and their family carers want and come up with suggestions for projects and activities to get involved in that will support adults with disabilities.
Aberdeenshire Council’s Housing and Social Work Service currently provides a range of day services for people with disabilities predominantly from seven resource centres located across Aberdeenshire. Day activities are well-regarded by service users and family carers and regularly receive excellent grades from the external inspection and regulation organisation. As part of the council’s commitment to continuous improvement day services are being transformed from being mainly based in buildings to a move towards more community based activities.
Chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s Social Work and Housing Committee Councillor Karen Clark said: “We want to involve the whole community in the process of looking at progressive day service provision.
“From voluntary to community groups, businesses, provider organisations and other public sector bodies everyone has a part to play to shape what services will look like and create inclusive communities.
“If you feel that your group, organisation or business has something to offer and something to gain from being involved in this process then please apply for a free place at this event.”
