An all-day free event on the eve of International Youth Day is being organised by youth groups in Banchory.
It will take place in the town’s Bellfield Park on Friday, August 10 and is aimed at celebrating and raising awareness of the day. Anyone between the ages of 12 and 25 are welcome to take part in the 12 hour rolling programme which starts at 11am with boot camp games leading to a mini Olympics.
From 7pm there will be a concert showcasing some of the very best young bands and singers in the area, such as The Edge, The Targetts, Victoria Sponge, Melissa Allan and Shannon Andrew.
The aim of the day is to celebrate the investment that groups such as Youth Industries put into young people’s futures.
Former Banchory Academy pupil Isla Elliott, who is one of the main organisers, believes this is the perfect opportunity to give something back to her community and make young people aware of what they can achieve by being involved in initiatives such as Youth Industries.
She said: “Being involved in my local community has given me the confidence and experience that I cherish today. I would highly recommend that any young person gets involved in their local community no matter what their abilities or ambitions are because there is something for everyone.”
