A Banchory family, ranging from a 7 year old to a 73 year old, have signed up to take part in the only mountain bike event held in the grounds of the prestigious Balmoral Estate.
bikeBalmoral will take place on Sunday 12 June 2011 to raise vital funds for CHILDREN 1ST following the success of last year’s event. The registration period has been extended until June 5 2011.
Individuals, families, colleagues and friends are invited to race or ride off-road on two routes; a 30 mile Cross Country Chip-timed Race or a 10 mile Scenic Cycle suitable for all ages and abilities. Both courses are set against the stunning background of Royal Deeside and provide an opportunity for everyone to get involved.
Father of four Jonathan Tame took part in bikeBalmoral last year as his first ever bike race. He enjoyed it so much he decided to get the family and their friends involved in this month’s charity event including his wife Lucy, two daughters Rachel, 12, and Isobel, 7, son Henry, 10, and his parents Norman, 73, and Julie, 71. The family have been encouraging others to sign up with them and will now also be joined by Henry’s friend, Lewis Duffy, 11. Jonathan is an enthusiastic recreational cyclist and is competing in the 30 mile Cross Country Chip-timed Race while the rest of the family do the 10 mile Scenic Cycle.
Lucy said: “We are all really looking forward to it – it’s a great day out and it’s a lovely event for the whole family to take part in. It’s also a great way to spend time inside the picturesque grounds at the Balmoral Estate.”
The event started four years ago as a small gathering of enthusiastic cyclists and now aims to have around 300 participants this year.
Last year, £10,000 was raised by over 200 entrants and organisers are hoping to exceed this. bikeBalmoral, which was set up by the CHILDREN 1ST Deeside Action Group, will see all proceeds going towards local projects run by the charity.
