The Scottish Fiddle Orchestra is to play tribute to the string orchestra of the Titanic at its concert in Aberdeen Music Hall at 7.30pm on Saturday (April 14).
The exact anniversary of the Titanic disaster is only a few hours after the start of the SFO’s concert on Saturday. The SFO will play a special arrangement of the music that the ship’s orchestra played as she went down. ‘Nearer my God to Thee’ has been arranged for the occasion by the leader of the SFO, Bill Cook, in tribute to the musicians.
The SFO will play an orchestral arrangement of ‘Wild Rose of the Mountain’, a new arrangement for orchestra of ‘MacPherson’s Farewell’, the SFO’s stirring piece ‘The Drummers’ featuring the orchestra’s percussion section, and ‘The Old Man of Hoy’.
The guest line up for this event includes soprano and opera singer Arlene Rolph, tenor Dennis Haggerty, the Bucksburn and District Pipe Band, outstanding young dancers from Dumfries and Galloway, conductor Blair Parham, and compere Jim McColl. Tickets are available from the box office.
