As part of last week’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, a number of the youth organisations in Banchory took part in a ‘follow the flame’ event on Scolty Hill.

The Jubilee torch began its journey in Bellfield Park and was carried to Scolty car park by representatives from Banchory Stonehaven Athletics Club.

The flame was then transferred to a lantern and carried in succession by Depute Lord Lieutenant Mrs Rita MacLean, Sir Robert Smith MP, and Mr. Ryan Bond, President of Banchory Rotary.

Lining the route on Scolty Hill were 60 young people, each representing one year of the Queen’s reign.

As the flame passed by, each participant fixed a Jubilee medal to one of six specially designed Diamond Jubilee banners.

The parade continued to the top of Scolty culminating in the lighting of the official Diamond Jubilee Beacon.

Hot drinks and cakes rounded off the evening at the Scout hut with each representative receiving a Jubilee medal and a commemorative certificate of the event.
