A group of four friends are set to take on a gruelling 87-mile walk along the River Dee to try and raise £5000 for Clan Cancer Support.

The group, composed of close companions Kelly, Ryan, Karen and Jonny, will spend the first night of the adventure in Coylumbridge on Tuesday July 28.

From there they will set off on an early morning eight mile hike to the Pools of Dee, the river’s source.

The route, which will see the group finish in Aberdeen on Sunday August 2, is still being planned but is expected to travel through Braemar, Ballater, Aboyne and Banchory.

The group have also chosen a second charity which they will put funds towards - Crohn’s and Colitis UK .

The charity aims to improve life for everyone affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) – the main forms being Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.

The idea for the walk was inspired by tv programme Levison Wood ‘Walking the Nile’ which encouraged the group to undertake what they describe as ‘the Scottish equivalent.’

A raffle is also being planned by the group and so far the donation page has already attracted over 80 donations and raised over £2500.
