The 2015 MG BBC Alba Scottish Trad Awards, which celebrates Scotland’s traditional music in all its forms and showcases the best of Scottish bands and musicians, is now in its 13th year, and The Glassel Hall, by Banchory, has been nominated in the “Venue of the Year” category .

Glassel Gig committee member Bryony Smith told The Piper “we are absolutely delighted for everyone involved with the hall and all those who have supported us over the years. Being nominated for such a prestigious award really is testament to our community spirit, and we would encourage everyone to log on and vote”.

This year the Trad Awards takes place in Dundee’s Caird Hall on Saturday December 5, and the programme will include performances by Peatbog Fairies, Duncan Chisholm, Phil Cunningham & Aly Bain, and will be televised live on BBC Alba.

Previous winners of the award have included Perth Concert Hall and the Old Fruitmarket, Glasgow, which is an indication of how far the Glassel Hall has progressed in recent years as a highly respected and very popular venue for traditional music events.

In the past two or three years, Glassel has welcomed internationally renowned artists such as Session A9, Boys of the Lough, Blazin’ Fiddles and Daimh, with all events sold out to capacity.

Voting is now open and is done online at www.projects.handsupfortrad.scot/scotstradmusicawards/voting until Friday November 20.
