A surprising new record has been set at Deeside Gliding Club – without anyone leaving the ground.
The official Met Office weather station, which is situated on the club’s airfield at Aboyne, recorded a sweltering 22.9oC on Mondaythis week.
This sets a new Scottish record for the month of March.
Club Chairman Alex Maitland said: “We are used to setting records here. We’ve held the UK height record for gliding – 38,550 feet – since 1995, but this is the first time that we have not needed a decent pair of wings to beat the rest of the country.
Let’s hope the weather holds until our open days on April 7 and 8.”
