With just two weeks until Christmas, Abbeyfield Scotland, is offering older people, who find themselves alone, a meal and company over the festive period.

Christmas is a busy, social time of year but for some older people without family around them it can be a time when they feel isolated and lonely. Abbeyfield Scotland is a charity which runs 25 independent living homes for older people across Scotland including houses in Stonehaven, Turriff and Torphins.

‘Caring at Christmas’ was launched by Abbeyfield last week. Older people in the Deeside area are invited to join the residents and house staff at Abbeyfield Torphins for a meal and the possibility of an overnight stay over the festive period.

The same opportunity will be on offer at the charity’s homes in Turriff and Stonehaven. Anyone interested should call Abbeyfield Scotland on 0131 225 7801.

Niall Patterson, Abbeyfield Scotland CEO, said: ‘‘No-one should have to face the isolation and loneliness of being alone at Christmas and this is our way of tackling the issue.”
